I was in Finance 3/66 to 6/68. Cooke Barracks was like a College campus. The only "group" that resembled the Army was the 144th Signal Battalion and they were out in the field, somewhere? I think they came in every six months....then out again for a few months. Now, when the Big Red 1 moved in the landscape changed a little....some new buildings, etc.. I'm guessing, I was'nt there.....but I'm surprised that more people don't respond from "my era.?''60's...

Warren: I was in the 504th from 1/63 to 6/65. GIs from the 1960s are getting up there in years. Some are probably gone, others not computer literate, and some don't know where they are now let alone where they were in the 60's.

I came to Germany in June 66 with an artillery MOS assigned to the 14th ACR.  Reassigned to the 4th AD at Frankfurt for artillery, but due to some college and a high GT, assigned to 504 Admin finance.  Worked at the Replacement Section on the third floor until Jan 1967.  Then assigned to the finance branch at Monteith Barracks.  Both duties involved ED (exempt from duty, not the "other" one).    No guard, no KP, no CQ, no details, no formations    Back to the world Dec 67.

Hi guys..You are correct in that many of we 60's era guys have gone on their big journey.  I don't think I have gone on my journey because I think about my time at Cooke Barracks in 59-60 and it's a great time to remember.  I was in the 504th Admin Co and worked in AG Operations in the basement of the building and lived up on the 3rd floor. I don't think that I would want to go and see what's left of the place. Kinda like not wanting to go to a funeral.  Remember the good times..I wish that I could hear from more of the guys that I served with. There were about 6 of us that tipped a few together and about half are gone. Keep up the conversations!!

Like a Yo! Here is the deal...made E-5 in 15 months..bought a "new" '67 VW Beetle 1500 cc..in which you could not buy in the states at the time..states only 1350 cc's. I was in Finance HQ 4th Armor Div. (out-processing)..guys were going to "Nam" of course they "90" day vacation , before going..I would say, "hey I could give  three (3) months "ADVANCE" pay''they could'nt believe it...Where was the Company Clerk????? YES! in the 504th Admin..some of us had "Nice" jobs. I use to worry about driving down to MA's and being to full to finish a snitzel. I would tell the guys at 10.00 o'clock in the morning: don't eat ...we are hitting "Ma"s" tonight and they would listen, because they knew the food you would get at Ma's.......Hey!..you have to be lucky in life....don't let anyone "BS" you...about that........
