Going Back

I am so exited...I am going back to Germany for a week or so on Nov. 15th. My employer is sending me to Erlangen (Nurenberg/Munchen) for training at the Siemens plant there. I don't work for Siemens, but I do work on their MRI Systems. I have been polishing up on my German. I am looking forward to drinking some good beer and eating some tasty German food. If anyone knows what I should be doing for fun while in this area, let me know. I was stationed in Goeppingen and I think I made it to Nurenberg once??

LOST GRANDFATHER - HELP

1952 -1960

LOST GRANDFATHER,

Hi everyone....

This post is aimed towards anyone that might have been stationed in Germany "COOK BARRACKS" during the time of 1952-1960

I have very limited information about my possible grandfather and even that information is based on rumors and family hear say and secrets.

I've been looking, researching this information for decades now and I am afraid I still hit a dead end every time I find the will to look again.

Now I found thing page and I am afraid it will be my last hope in terms of finding any picture, a name, a memory or at least an assurance of any information being somewhat valid.

My grandfather must have been of mixed maybe Hispanic, Native American or Italian descent. Which again is only a guess coming from the way my mother looks. Hear say claims that his name was MR. WALKER (he was called only by Walker, never his fist name which was said to be John, or Johnny (yes like the Whiskey) so I don't know how much of it is actually accurate or just plain made up) I do not have rank or division in which he was placed nor for the exact time period.

He must have encountered a local German woman named CAROLA SCHMIEDHAEUSSLER (very attractive and well known) during the given time period. I do not know if they were officially dating, or just casually well you know what.

Anyways, during their time spent together my grandmother got pregnant with my mother which must have been during the time of February/March 1959.

Family rumors claim, MR.Walker left Germany before my mother was born in November 1959, and it is not clear if he knew about my mothers existence or not at all.

Regardless of what circumstances back then, I do not wish to bring back long forgotten memories, still it is very close to my heart to finally for fill my mothers silent dream to know - where she comes from. It seems heartbreaking not knowing that other side of you, which has wounded my mother deeply during her childhood in Germany and left many scars even through elderly adulthood.

I long have giving up on actually finding him, so today I would be happy about a memory of him, a validation of his existence, a photo or anything else that could bring me closer to my heritage and my mothers dream of finding answers to questions never able to ask.

I am more than thankful for any hint, memory or advice anyone is willing to offer.

Sincerely,

Michaela

PS: If anyone is interested to know, Cook Barracks today have been completely remodeled. It is ruled a new development Center for Businesses. My Uncle bought one of the hangar's and turned it into his company. It is beautiful up there now, but I am afraid most buildings have been demolished and replaced. The old big red hangar is ruled a historical Building and is owned by the state and can not be destroyed, even though it is not maintained either and sadly is falling apart

Two (2) different "era's"

I was in Finance 3/66 to 6/68. Cooke Barracks was like a College campus. The only "group" that resembled the Army was the 144th Signal Battalion and they were out in the field, somewhere? I think they came in every six months....then out again for a few months. Now, when the Big Red 1 moved in the landscape changed a little....some new buildings, etc.. I'm guessing, I was'nt there.....but I'm surprised that more people don't respond from "my era.?''60's...

Maggies Schnitzel recipe

Well, I just want to say that I been making the breaded schnitzel and getting better as to the looks and taste but like always, it just doesnt taste as good as Maggie would have made them. The next time I cooked some more I said a prayer for Maggie and maybe its just me but the schnitzels turned out better so if any of you try cooking then try saying a prayer and at lease there would be many prayers of love for her. Maybe it was wishful thinking.
